Assistance with Daily Living

Every day brings its own set of activities, from getting dressed in the morning to preparing meals, managing personal care, and participating in the community. For many NDIS participants, these daily living activities can present challenges that impact independence and quality of life. At Prime 1 Care, we provide comprehensive daily living assistance designed to support you in maintaining your independence, dignity, and active participation in everyday life.

What is Daily Living Assistance?

Daily living assistance refers to support provided to help NDIS participants complete everyday activities that may be difficult due to disability. Funded under the NDIS Core Supports budget, it focuses on the practical, day-to-day tasks that enable you to live comfortably and safely in your own home and community, flexible and tailored to your individual needs, preferences and changing circumstances.

Our Person-Centred Approach

Personal Care Assistance

Personal care is one of the most intimate forms of support we provide, delivered with respect, professionalism and sensitivity: hygiene and grooming (showering, oral care, dressing, continence management), mobility assistance (transfers, walking support, mobility aids, positioning), and medication management (reminders, assistance within our scope of practice, dose administration aid organisation, and monitoring for side effects in communication with your healthcare providers).

Household Tasks and Meal Preparation

Cleaning and tidying, light housekeeping, vacuuming, kitchen and bathroom cleaning, laundry and bed linen changes. Meal preparation, planning nutritious meals, grocery shopping, cooking to your dietary preferences, and support with eating and drinking if needed. Home organisation, decluttering, seasonal tasks, and light gardening. For participants who also need clinical health support at home, our community nursing services can be provided alongside daily living assistance.

Community Access and Social Participation

Support extends beyond your home: transport assistance to appointments and events, support attending social and recreational activities, and help with shopping and errands. We also support participants to get out and engage with their community through our community access services.

Skills Development

Alongside practical support, we build your skills and confidence over time, life skills training in cooking, household management and budgeting, and social skills support including communication, confidence and self-advocacy.

Assistive Technology for Daily Living

We help you explore, access and use assistive technology that reduces reliance on human support and increases autonomy, from mobility and transfer aids (wheelchairs, walkers, hoists) to communication devices, personal care aids, home modifications and smart home technology (voice assistants, medication reminders, smart lighting).

We work with you, your family and allied health professionals such as occupational therapists to assess needs, connect you with AT assessment services, and support NDIS funding applications. Once equipment is in place, we provide training, help integrate it into your daily routine, and coordinate maintenance and servicing over time.

NDIS Funding for Daily Living Assistance

Daily living assistance is funded through Core Supports, primarily under Assistance with Daily Life (personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, life skills and community participation). Related costs may also draw on Consumables (continence products, personal care items) and Assistive Technology funding, low-cost items (under $1,500) are typically funded from Core, while higher-cost items require assessment and approval through the Capital budget. Prime 1 Care works with both plan-managed and self-managed participants.

Who Can Benefit

Our daily living assistance supports participants across all ages and disability types, including physical disabilities (spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, stroke recovery), neurological conditions (MS, Parkinson’s, acquired brain injury), sensory disabilities, intellectual and developmental disabilities (autism, Down syndrome), psychosocial disabilities, and participants with multiple or complex support needs.

Getting Started

Real Stories, Real Impact

While we protect the privacy of our participants, these composite examples illustrate the difference daily living assistance makes:
Sarah’s Story: Sarah, a young woman with cerebral palsy, wanted to live independently but struggled with personal care and meal preparation. With daily morning and evening support, she now lives in her own apartment and has learned to prepare simple meals independently.
Michael’s Journey: After a stroke, Michael found household tasks overwhelming. Daily living assistance with cleaning, shopping and meal prep allowed him to remain in his own home, supported by occupational therapy and assistive technology like a reacher and raised toilet seat.
