Forensic disability referral enquiries

A careful enquiry pathway for people with disability whose support involves justice services, legal orders or a transition between systems.

A referral begins with suitability

A forensic background does not define a person. Our national team can discuss the broad support requirement and whether a further assessment is appropriate. This page is an enquiry pathway and does not confirm specialist forensic capacity or acceptance of a referral.

Clarify the responsibilities of each service

Justice, health, housing and disability services may have different responsibilities. A proposed arrangement needs a clear lead contact, the person’s consent or relevant authority, and clarity about any lawful conditions affecting support.

Plan the community transition

Discuss the living environment, support hours, worker competencies, relevant risk information and communication arrangements. The responsible teams must agree on safe handover and escalation processes before services commence.

Share sensitive information carefully

Do not upload or email court orders, offence histories, clinical reports or other sensitive documents through the initial website enquiry. First ask the national team whether the referral is suitable and how any necessary information should be shared securely.

Scope and limitations

Prime 1 Care does not represent this enquiry pathway as legal advice, forensic assessment, psychiatric treatment, a custodial service or crisis response. Any regulated clinical service requires a separately confirmed qualified practitioner.

Your questions

Clear answers. A place to start.

Can Prime 1 Care support forensic disability participants?

Contact the national team for a suitability discussion. Acceptance depends on the specific requirements, legal and clinical responsibilities, staffing, environment and local capacity. A website enquiry is not confirmation of forensic service capability or a placement.

Who can make a forensic referral enquiry?

Participants, authorised representatives and professionals from disability, health, housing, guardianship or justice services can make an initial enquiry. Only share contact details and broad support categories until consent, suitability and secure information sharing are clarified.

Emergency and crisis support

Help when it cannot wait.

Prime 1 Care’s website, referral form and general enquiry channels are not emergency services. If someone is in immediate danger, call 000 or attend an emergency department. Do not wait for a reply to an enquiry.

13YARN offers crisis support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Kids Helpline supports children and young people aged 5 to 25. Contact details checked against each service’s official website.
