Plan around the participant
A short stay or respite arrangement should consider the participant’s routine, preferences, relationships and goals. Discuss personal care, communication, mobility and any nursing requirements at the outset.
Be clear about what is included
Accommodation, assistance, activities, meals and transport may involve different arrangements. Ask for a clear description of the service, staffing, costs and what the participant needs to bring.
Confirm funding and availability
Do not assume that a stay, holiday or break is funded under an NDIS plan. The relevant funding requirements and the specific service arrangement need confirmation before booking.
Complex support during a short stay
If the person needs high intensity assistance, medication support or behaviour plan implementation, discuss the required plans and worker skills. Availability for standard support does not confirm capacity for every complex need.
